Rolihlahla Mandela was born into the Madiba clan in the village of Mvezo , Transkei, on 18 July 1918. His mother was Nonqaphi Nosekeni and his father was Nkosi Mphakanyiswa Gadla Mandela, principal counsellor to the Acting King of the Thembu people, Jongintaba Dalindyebo. In 1930, when he was 12 years old, his father died and the young Rolihlahla became a ward of Jongintaba at the Great Place in Mqhekezweni 1 .
Hearing the elders’ stories of his ancestors’ valour during the wars of resistance, he dreamed also of making his own contribution to the freedom struggle of his people.
The narrated life and times of Nelson Mandela
He attended primary school in Qunu where his teacher Miss Mdingane gave him the name Nelson, in accordance with the custom to give all school children “Christian” names.
He completed his Junior Certificate at Clarkebury Boarding Institute and went on to Healdtown, a Wesleyan secondary school of some repute, where he matriculated.
Nelson Mandela began his studies for a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University College of Fort Hare but did not complete the degree there as he was expelled for joining in a student protest.
On his return to the Great Place at Mqhekezweni the King was furious and said if he didn’t return to Fort Hare he would arrange wives for him and his cousin Justice. They ran away to Johannesburg instead, arriving there in 1941. There he worked as a mine security officer and after meeting Walter Sisulu, an estate agent, he was introduced to Lazer Sidelsky. He then did his articles through a firm of attorneys, Witkin Eidelman and Sidelsky.
He completed his BA through the University of South Africa and went back to Fort Hare for his graduation in 1943.

Meanwhile he began studying for an LLB at the University of the Witwatersrand. By his own admission he was a poor student and left the university in 1952 without graduating. He only started studying again through the University of London after his imprisonment in 1962 but also did not complete that degree.
In 1989, while in the last months of his imprisonment, he obtained an LLB through the University of South Africa. He graduated in absentia at a ceremony in Cape Town.
Entering politics
Nelson Mandela, while increasingly politically involved from 1942, only joined the African National Congress in 1944 when he helped to form the ANC Youth League.
In 1944 he married Walter Sisulu’s cousin Evelyn Mase, a nurse. They had two sons, Madiba Thembekile "Thembi" and Makgatho and two daughters both called Makaziwe, the first of whom died in infancy. He and his wife divorced in 1958.
Nelson Mandela rose through the ranks of the ANCYL and through its efforts, the ANC adopted a more radical mass-based policy, the Programme of Action in 1949.

In 1952 he was chosen at the National Volunteer-in-Chief of the Defiance Campaign with Maulvi Cachalia as his deputy. This campaign of civil disobedience against six unjust laws was a joint programme between the ANC and the South African Indian Congress. He and 19 others were charged under the Suppression of Communism Act for their part in the campaign and sentenced to nine months hard labour, suspended for two years.
A two-year diploma in law on top of his BA allowed Nelson Mandela to practice law, and in August 1952 he and Oliver Tambo established South Africa’s first black law firm, Mandela and Tambo.
At the end of 1952 he was banned for the first time. As a restricted person he was only permitted to watch in secret as the Freedom Charter was adopted in Kliptown on 26 June 1955.
The Treason Trial
Nelson Mandela was arrested in a countrywide police swoop on 5 December 1955, which led to the 1956 Treason Trial. Men and women of all races found themselves in the dock in the marathon trial that only ended when the last 28 accused, including Mandela were acquitted on 29 March 1961.
On 21 March 1960 police killed 69 unarmed people in a protest in Sharpeville against the pass laws. This led to the country’s first state of emergency and the banning of the ANC and the Pan Africanist Congress on 8 April. Nelson Mandela and his colleagues in the Treason Trial were among thousands detained during the state of emergency.
During the trial Nelson Mandela married a social worker, Winnie Madikizela, on 14 June 1958. They had two daughters, Zenani and Zindziswa. The couple divorced in 1996.
Days before the end of the Treason Trial Nelson Mandela travelled to Pietermaritzburg to speak at the All-in Africa Conference, which resolved that he should write to Prime Minister Verwoerd requesting a national convention on a non-racial constitution, and to warn that should he not agree there would be a national strike against South Africa becoming a republic. After he and his colleagues were acquitted in the Treason Trial Nelson Mandela went underground and began planning a national strike for 29, 30 and 31 March.
In the face of massive mobilisation of state security the strike was called off early. In June 1961 he was asked to lead the armed struggle and helped to establish Umkhonto weSizwe (Spear of the Nation) which launched on 16 December 1961 with a series of explosions.
Madiba travelled with his Ethiopian passport
On 11 January 1962, using the adopted name David Motsamayi, Nelson Mandela secretly left South Africa. He travelled around Africa and visited England to gain support for the armed struggle. He received military training in Morocco and Ethiopia and returned to South Africa in July 1962. He was arrested in a police roadblock outside Howick on 5 August while returning from KwaZulu-Natal where he had briefed ANC President Chief Albert Luthuli about his trip.
He was charged with leaving the country without a permit and inciting workers to strike. He was convicted and sentenced to five years' imprisonment which he began serving in the Pretoria Local Prison. On 27 May 1963 he was transferred to Robben Island and returned to Pretoria on 12 June. Within a month police raided Liliesleaf, a secret hide-out in Rivonia used by ANC and Communist Party activists, and several of his comrades were arrested.
On 9 October 1963 Nelson Mandela joined ten others on trial for sabotage in what became known as the Rivonia Trial. While facing the death penalty his words to the court at the end of his famous ‘Speech from the Dock’ on 20 April 1964 became immortalised:
Speech from the Dock quote made by Nelson Mandela on 20 April 1964
“I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”
On 11 June 1964 Nelson Mandela and seven other accused: Walter Sisulu, Ahmed Kathrada, Govan Mbeki, Raymond Mhlaba, Denis Goldberg, Elias Motsoaledi and Andrew Mlangeni were convicted and the next day were sentenced to life imprisonment. Denis Goldberg was sent to Pretoria Prison because he was white, while the others went to Robben Island.

Nelson Mandela’s mother died in 1968 and his eldest son Thembi in 1969. He was not allowed to attend their funerals.
On 31 March 1982 Nelson Mandela was transferred to Pollsmoor Prison in Cape Town with Sisulu, Mhlaba and Mlangeni. Kathrada joined them in October. When he returned to the prison in November 1985 after prostate surgery Nelson Mandela was held alone. Justice Minister Kobie Coetsee visited him in hospital. Later Nelson Mandela initiated talks about an ultimate meeting between the apartheid government and the ANC.

Release from prison
On 12 August 1988 he was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. After more than three months in two hospitals he was transferred on 7 December 1988 to a house at Victor Verster Prison near Paarl where he spent his last 14 months of imprisonment. He was released from its gates on Sunday 11 February 1990, nine days after the unbanning of the ANC and the PAC and nearly four months after the release of his remaining Rivonia comrades. Throughout his imprisonment he had rejected at least three conditional offers of release.
Nelson Mandela immersed himself in official talks to end white minority rule and in 1991 was elected ANC President to replace his ailing friend Oliver Tambo. In 1993 he and President FW de Klerk jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize and on 27 April 1994 he voted for the first time in his life.
President
On 10 May 1994 he was inaugurated South Africa’s first democratically elected President. On his 80th birthday in 1998 he married Graça Machel, his third wife.
True to his promise Nelson Mandela stepped down in 1999 after one term as President. He continued to work with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund he set up in 1995 and established the Nelson Mandela Foundation and The Mandela Rhodes Foundation.
"It is in your hands" – Mandela Day quote
In April 2007 his grandson Mandla Mandela was installed as head of the Mvezo Traditional Council at a ceremony at the Mvezo Great Place.
Nelson Mandela never wavered in his devotion to democracy, equality and learning. Despite terrible provocation, he never answered racism with racism. His life is an inspiration to all who are oppressed and deprived; and to all who are opposed to oppression and deprivation.
He died at his home in Johannesburg on 5 December 2013.

Unilag Release 2015 Post UTME Result, 17,935 Candidates Passed.

unilag Official reports by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) say a total of 17,935 candidates of the 31,955 passed its 2015 post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The information is contained in a statement signed by Olagoke Oke the institution’s deputy registrar.
It would be recalled that 31,955 candidates partook of the recent 2015 JAMB-organised UTME. Most of the candidates scored 200 marks above and chose the university as their school of first choice.
The statement said that the screening, which was carried out on August 12-14, was successful.
“A total of 17,935 candidates passed the screening test with a minimum score of 40%.
“To this respect, 309 candidates did not show up for the test while 118 candidates were disqualified for failure to follow the instructions for the Computer Based Test (CBT).
“A total of 393 results were initially withheld on suspicion of malpractice but on further scrutiny, 271 of these results have been confirmed as cases involving malpractice.
“We will continue to withhold them for further investigations, while the remaining 122 results have been released.
“The cut-off marks for admissions into the various programmes offered by the university have since been released on the university website,’’ the statement said.
All candidates who participated in the examination were also urged to visit the university’s website www.unilag.edu.ng for the cut-off marks and the individual scores.
The candidates were, however, warned that the university does not require any additional payments in respect of admission.
The communique made it clear that any request made by an individual or a group of individuals for payment in order to assist them to secure admission was fraudulent.
“For emphasis, candidates are advised not to make any payment to anyone for any purpose relating to admissions.
“Anyone found to be involved in any form of solicitation, giving or receiving money or benefit of any kind with respect to facilitating admissions into the University of Lagos will be reported to the appropriate law enforcement agents.
“Additionally, candidates found to have offered or given money or benefit in kind for admission into the university will be disqualified from admission.
“Candidates are hereby advised to desist from seeking information and any other form of assistance in relation to admissions from sites other than the university’s official website,’’ the statement warned.
There has been much fuss regarding the UNILAG post-UTME exercise, a lot transpired within the course of carrying out the programme. It is recalled that there were issues of the cut-off marks. The future students and their parents had to protest in court, regarding the initial benchmark that was put at 250.
The case of a randy lecturer who allegedly raped a student who was seeking admission to the UNILAG, also sparked controversy. There were claims and counter claims as to the true identity of the lecturer as a staff of the university. It was reported that afterwards the 18-year-old victim was awarded a scholarship.
JAMB post-UTME exercise continues this week, with several other tertiary institutions across the nation looking to get the programme over with, just in time to align with the academic calendar.

Are you one of those who had been expecting to see a top striker at Arsenal this summer? Were you totally convinced that Arsene Wenger will succeed in getting Karim Benzema from Real Madrid? If ‘yes’, then I have to tell you something but before I do, I will advise you to pick a glass of cold water and pour it down your throat before going on. Calm down!
It has finally been agreed by Arsenal and the occupants of the Santiago Bernabeu. I mean a compromise has been reached. The two sides have agreed that the transfer of Benzema to the Emirates Stadium could happen some other time which will definitely not be this summer. Sorry to break your heart.
The Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger has made it clear that the French striker will be difficult to get as the Spanish giants do not want to sell him at the moment and also because he is still under contract at his current club.
Benzema who has been seriously linked with a move to London during this transfer window has committed his future to the club and wishes to remain at the Spanish capital, Madrid.
Speaking to reporters after Liverpool held his side to a 0-0 draw on Monday night, Arsene Wenger stated that news claiming that Benzema will soon join the Gunners are all false.
“That story is dead. That story has always been created every week. When a player has a contract, it’s the club that decides,” he said.
“Real Madrid have said many times they don’t want to sell him. It’s the same for us when we have a player under contract.”
Since we now know that we can no longer get Benzema, let’s just zero our mind as if we will not sign anyone else. If any new player comes, it’s all good and if none is signed, there is nothing more we can do than back the ones we have. We also have to pray for less or no long term injuries. Cavani? That transfer doesn’t seem likely too.

Money syndrome: Nigerian Dies In Malaysia After Selling Kidney For N6million...

In the quest for fast money, a 28-year-old Nigerian man identified simply as Chukwudi, has lost his life in bizarre circumstances after he traveled to Malaysia to donate one of his kidneys to a patient needing a transplant.
According to a Nigerian business man based in that Middle East country, Chuwkwudi is not alone in this risky and dangerous business of selling internal organs for money as many young Nigerians undertake this venture just to get rich quick.
This is what the business man (name withheld by Pulse) reported exclusively to Pulse:
“I know many Nigerians will say it is none of my business how others make their money but I want to bring this to the notice of our country people how many of our young men die here in Malaysia in very disturbing circumstances.
I can tell of this young Igbo boy named Chukwudi, from Owerri, (Imo State) who was paid the sum of N6 million by one rich man to donate his kidney for a transplant.
The young man was brought in from Nigeria and I had the privilege of interacting with him and tried to dissuade from undertaking such a risky venture but he was adamant, telling me he had made up his mind already and nothing could stop him.
I even offered he join me in my little car washing business from which I have been able to build a house back home but Chukwudi did not want to struggle to make money.
He wanted fast money and he ended up a dead man because the operation was not successful. he died in the process while the rich man had a successful kidney transplant.
I felt so bad because I kind of liked the boy who was graduate and had a lot of life ahead of him.
I want to use this opportunity to warn our young people not to always be in a hurry to make fast money.”

President Buhari Registers For National Identity Card (Photo)

NIM-CAPTURED-PRESIDENT-BUHARI-3-300x199
President Muhammadu Buhari was on Tuesday in Abuja registered by officials of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to enable him to obtain his national identity card.
Fielding questions from State House correspondents after his registration inside the Presidential Villa, Buhari said the exercise would confirm the country’s population, especially of those aged 18 years and above.
“I think this exercise is very important as it will confirm our population and those, who are entitled to vote – that is those, who are 18 years and above.
“It will complement the exercise of the Permanent Voters Card.
“So, for those who want their votes to count from whichever party or constituency, they should ensure that they and their families are properly captured like I have been captured.“
In his remarks, the Director General of NIMC, Mr Chris Onyemenam, said that the exercise was a continuous one.
He said that additional enrolment centres would be established in all Local Government Areas of the federation.
According to him, the commission is also planning to open such centres in hospitals, primary schools, and universities.
He said: “So, every enrolment centre that we have established remains open forever; they are like branches of banks.
“We are taking deliberate steps to ensure that enrolment centres are opened in each local government.
“In collaboration with MDAs, we are now extending it to universities. It will also be extended to primary schools and hospitals.
“With the cooperation we expect from INEC – we are meeting INEC today – it will be extended even further.“
Onyemenam said that the commission had so far captured the data of nearly seven million Nigerians.
“The close to seven million that we have in our data base is the product of the pilot scheme that we embarked upon to demonstrate the value of the scheme,“ he said.
The DG commended Buhari over his recent directive that biometrics data bases in government agencies be expeditiously harmonised. (NAN)

The verbal war between the ex-Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Peter Orubebe and the Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State Wednesday took a dimension of pedestrian, with the ex-Minister calling Oshiomhole a ‘garage boy’ and vowing to expose his dubious deeds against Nigerians.
Orubebe in a swift reaction to Oshiomhole’s response to his (Orubebe) earlier remarks on him, said that the Comrade Oshiomhole’s attempt to link his advice to President Muhammadu Buhari to be weary of popular Villa sycophants to his fears of a possible probe with connection to the East- West road project shows he is indeed a ‘garage boy’ who lacks focus.
Orubebe who described the governor’s insinuation as laughable, maintained that the Edo state Governor has failed to address the issue of sycophancy which he accused him of.
He said Oshiomhole is suffering from chronic diarrhoea of the mouth and that is why he has lately been misleading Nigerians as his illiteracy is beyond human comprehension.
The former Minister of Special duties further argued that his integrity and high level of accountability all through his six years service to the nation as the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs cannot be matched nor compromised.
He added, “I am proud to have been a vital instrument used by God to take the once abandoned East- West road project to an admirable 80 percent level of completion.
It is unfortunate that our respected Niger Delta could produced the likes of Oshiomhole who is a garage boy that should be at the motor park as a son.
Threatening to expose Oshiomhole more, Elder Orubebe said, “I will disgrace him publicly and tell the world about his dubious deeds as governor as well as his role in the botched Third Term Bid of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
“I am going to open his can of worms to the point that Nigerians will stone him if seen on the streets. I don’t talk carelessly as I have my facts to prove my points.’
On the alleged embezzlement of several billions of naira under his regime as minister of Niger Delta, he said, “I am not afraid of probe, am a man of integrity under whose watch the abandoned 42 bridges and 1040 culverts that was initially without designed was upgraded to the level it is today.
“Every reasonable Niger Deltan and Nigerians at large knows that I am the admired face of the East West road, I can stand tall, anywhere and anytime to defend my administration as well as account for every dime that was allocated for the several projects we embarked upon’.
“My Co- ministers and every other person who was a member of the federal Executive Council under former president Jonathan’s watch can attest to the fact that I was a vessel par excellence who had result oriented contributed to make towards moving the nation forward,” he said.
On the statement by the Oshiomhole that he should be cooling off in jail following his actions at the 2015 presidential election collation Centre, Elder Orubebe said, “if he is reasonable, he will not refer to my action at the election result collation centre.”
“This is because, history will talk about it and Nigerians will be proud of me. Yes, I had to apologise to Nigerians, particularly the youths over my I term ‘wrong approach to a just course’. Yes, I had a just case that was deliberately ignored, as one who felt cheated, and so reacted
He said, “I’m laughing at him because, if there’s anyone who should bury his face in shame, it has to be Oshiomhole who disgraced, harassed and rough handled a poor widow who he should have ordinarily accommodated.”
He continued, “My people are very proud of me, I mean the aged, the poor and orphans. I don’t disgrace them before putting smiles on their faces.
“I maintain the fact that Oshiomhole is a popular villa sycophant, a garage boy and that PMB should be weary of him, if he must succeed and be really admired.”

(vi) Status of the contract awarded to the company
(vii) Payment certificates issued/valuation reports
(viii) Contract award documents and (ix) Any other information that will assist the Commission in its investigation.”
Also, the letter written to the Accountant General of Rivers State, on the tax consultancy allegation, entitled: “Investigation Activities: Messrs Collect Nigeria Limited,” the EFCC demanded the following:
(i) Details of internally generated revenue between 2007 to date,
(ii) Evidence of disbursement and 5 per cent retained within the period,

(v) Details of payment made to Messrs Collect Nig. Ltd
(vi) House of Assembly resolution/approval
(vii) State Executives (that is, State Executive Council) resolution/approval and (viii) Any other information that will assist the Commission in its investigation.”
In the three letters, the EFCC stated that its demands for explanation were “made pursuant to Section 38 (1) and (2) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act 2004.”
As at the time of going to press, it could not be ascertained whether the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General had responded to EFCC letters.

Drama As Soldiers Storm Magistrate Court, Beat Up Officials And Free Suspects.

court There was a mild drama in the premises of Evbuoriaria Magistrate’s Court, Benin, yesterday, as soldiers stormed the court and freed four suspects brought for arraignment by officials of the Edo State War Against Indiscipline, WAI.
Attempt to contact officials of Army Public Relations, 4 Brigade Benin, for comments failed as they could not be reached.
It was gathered that the soldiers had earlier stormed the premises of WAI located at the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism, and allegedly beat up staff of the agency in their bid to rescue the arrested suspects.
WAI officials were said to have arrested a couple and impounded their Mitsubishi car with number plates EDO BEN 451 FH along Airport Road over alleged violation of traffic rules.
The couple put a call to some persons, following which a detachment of soldiers stormed the premises, releasing gunshots into the air and beating up some staff of the agency.
Lawrence Loye, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, a retired Army Major, intervened and the soldiers left the premises.
The agency’s officials, in line with Edo State traffic and sanitation laws, imme-diately took the suspects to a magistrate’s court.
The suspects were at the court premises with officials of WAI awaiting the assigning of the case to a magistrate, when a detachment of soldiers arrived the court in a Toyota Hilux van and dragged the suspects out of the WAI vehicle into theirs.
A Chief Magistrate described the action as shameful and directed staff to write a petition to relevant authorities.
Edo State chairman of WAI, David Olukogha, said the soldiers, attached to a construction company (names withheld), acted on the orders of an expatriate worker with the company.
He gave the names of the suspects as Edna Oriakogba, Paulinus Ekwugwu, Eddy Inogie and Okwolise Lucky.

Hey Guys, You Need To See This: 8 Places Where Men Can Get A Wife Material In Nigeria.

Before I go ahead to list these places, I must state emphatically that women are women. I know plenty of people in great relationships that have met in places like pubs and dance clubs. same goes for super markets and sidewalks. there are skanky bitches every where and there are awesome chicks everywhere so the list does not apply 100%.
Nevertheless, in my opinion, I have meticulously sieved out great places where men can have a real good chance of meeting ladies who will most likely make good house wives and mothers and while some may sound realistic to you, some may sound odd and outright funny but I will try my best to give a concise and brief reason why i chose these places so lets take a ride.
1. The food market: You will likely see ladies who are well groomed in kitchen affairs in the food market especially in the section where great experience is needed in deciphering good food items from bad ones and of-course a lady who understands how to stock the kitchen will have a good idea of how to make good meals and the way to a man’s heart stil remains through his stomach.

2. Catering Schools
: Trust me,most ladies in catering schools are definitely interested in learning the kitchen tricks and i can’t stress it enough that a lady who knows how to cook very well will definitely make her husband happy.

3. The mid-week religious gathering
: Yes you will be wondering why i chose the mid-week. The truth is that any lady can go to church on Sundays or to jumait service on Fridays but it takes a lady who is really close to GOD or have the love for GOD to go to religious gathering during the week when she can as well be at home watching telemudo and a lady who loves GOD will surely love her family.
4.Marriage classes : Make no mistake about this,a single lady attending marriage classes is definitely interested in making her future marriage secured and when you find any single and searching lady in this meeting please go for her and you will most likely never regret it.
5. BRT BUS TERMINAL: I know this will come as a surprise to many people but it may interest you that waiting to get into a BRT bus most times requires lots of patience and a lady who can be patient enough to wait in line for a BRT bus to show up will most likely be patient with her hubby through trying times lol!
6. Mama put joint: Yes very very funny but think about it.Many ladies prefer the effizy of going to big time fast food joints just to form butty and would rather prefer to eat pizza in these restaurants whereas the worms in their belly are yearning for good amala with gbegiri and ewedu soup with choice meat or any decent meal.So if you see a lady in mama put restaurant innocently swallowing her amala please pay attention to her because she is likely to be a down to heart zero-effizy and humble lady which are good qualities of a wife material.
7. Her work place: Definitely ladies who have groomed themselves to be financially independent and busy doing one thing or the other rather than jumping from one place to another with different guys are likely suitable as wife materials.
I guess I have tried and you are free to add yours.
