A little girl of 12-years-old, wearing make-up, poses for photographs
as she appears to marry a middle-aged man a shocking wedding video
which is presently going viral.
This horrifying footage also seems to show her suit-clad husband, who
is at least four decades older than her, clinging on to her.
Shot in Lebanon, the video has sparked an international outcry. But, thankfully, the child bride and her groom were actors.
Amassing more than 1.7 million views since it was released, the clip
offers up a window into another world where thousands of young girls in
Lebanon, Syria and around the world who are forced into marriage.
A passer-by questioning what was going on
Nearly 15 million girls who are as young as eight are forced to marry
older men sometimes in their sixties and senventies. According to the
United Nations Population Fund more than 1.2 billion girls will be
forced into child marriage by 2050.
Now the Government in Lebanon has introduced legislation it hopes
will pass that will require all marriages to have a civil registration
in an attempt to outlaw it.
Currently parents can give permission for their children to marry at
the age of nine while a girl can give consent herself at the age of 14.
Campaigner Maya Ammar said: “The scene video was supposed to seem shocking because the practice itself is shocking.”
It is thought one in three girls from low to middle income families
are married before they turn 18. And one third of those girls are less
than 15-years-old.
Tears flowed freely inside the Ekiti State Judiciary premises on
Friday as a Chief Magistrate’s Court remanded 16 students of Afe
Babalola University (ABUAD), Ado Ekiti in prison custody for their roles
in the mayhem that rocked the institution last Sunday.
They are being prosecuted for attempted robbery, arson and burglary
allegedly committed during the riot that occurred on the campus of the
private university.
They were accused of attempting to rob a branch of Wema Bank located
inside the campus, setting houses of ABUAD security staff members ablaze
and burglary of a boutique belonging to the wife of the university’s
founder, Mrs. Modupe Babalola.
Parents of the remanded students broke down and wept profusely as
their children were being marched into a Toyota pick-up van belonging to
the state command of the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) heading for the
Federal Prisons, Ado Ekiti.
The affected students are to remain in prison custody pending an
advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The mother of the only female student among the accused persons amid
sobs asserted the innocence of her daughter who was said to be in her
final year at the university.
A distraught mother of one of the embattled students lamented saying:
“I have been fasting and praying, why is my child implicated in this
case? I have struggled to give him the best education, I didn’t know
this is where it would take him. My child is innocent oh!”
Reprieve, however came the way of six of the accused persons as Chief
Magistrate Adesoji Adegboye, dropped charges against them for the same
offences consequent upon an application by the police prosecutor, Samson
Osobu.
The six were among those earlier granted N300,000 bail on a six-count
charge of rioting, possession of firearms and malicious damage.
Chief Magistrate Adegboye adjourned the case to Tuesday next week for
further hearing calling on the Ministry of Justice to speed up legal
advice in order to dispose of the matter as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the alumni association of the university has condemned the
riot that rocked the institution leading to destruction of property
worth millions of naira.
The association warned against misinformation on the social media
denying that no student was shot, raped or died during the protest.
The body praised the university’s founder, Aare Afe Babalola, for
resisting the temptation to close down the university as a result of the
crisis.
Addressing a briefing on the campus on Thursday, President of ABUAD
Alumni Association, Tope Sobajo, called on all stakeholders to join
hands with the authorities to get to the root of the crisis.
She urged parents, students and members of the public to desist from
making “spurious, inflammatory and unsubstantiated claims” urging
anybody needing any clarifications to contact the authorities and the
police.

I have always thought val is overhyped. May be it is because deep
down in my heart love has failed me. Love has disappointed me. All my
life the guys I like never like me back. And also, maybe it is because I
lost my virginity on val’s day.
All my life, guys have never really liked me. Or should I say the
guys I like don’t like me back while those I don’t care about are the
ones who pay me attention. Last year, I met a man I had been with
chatting with on facebook. He is married, but because I write poetry, he
became one of my ardent fans. He sent me a friend request and I
accepted, and from there we began chatting.
His wife is in London, but he is here on contract to one of the telcom companies so he didn’t come with his family.
When we met at ocean basket in VI last year, I couldn’t believe how
handsome he was. He is fair, tall and very handsome. I will not deny
that I fell in crush with him. I also will not deny that when he invited
me to his house in Adeniyi Jones in Ikeja, I accepted and went.
One thing led to another and he disvirgined me in his house, Feb 14,
2015. It happened on the couch, in his parlour. Prior to this the only
experience I have about s*x is what I read in books and watch in films. I
have kissed and touched guys, but never s*x. I wanted to keep it till
marriage, but I don’t know the kind of madness that took over me that
day. It happened on the sofa, not even in the bedroom. Cheap, huh? I’m a
cheap floosie, some people will say.
What pains me is I enjoyed every bit of it after the initial pain,
and I was also stupid enough to catch feelings, forgetting he is a
married man. I was feeling guilty thereafter, but that did not stop me
from still falling for him.
The problem now is he is married, and he doesn’t feel for me like I
feel for him. I am just a fresh, tight pu$sy to cure his konji while he
is in Nigeria.
I am so disappointed in love, and I wonder if true love exist. That
is why val day makes me sick. I hate love! Love is a very big lie. Quote
me any day.
While many Nigerians may still be seeing the next election
cycle as far away, a former member of the House of Representatives from
Yobe State, Alhaji Hassan El-Badawy has averred that President Muhammadu
Buhari must be allowed to stay in office for two terms.
He added that after the President must have finished his second
tenure in 2023, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo should be allowed to take
over from him and serve for another two tenures, stressing that it’s the
only way the duo can exhaust the good programmes they have lined up for
Nigerians.
El-Badawy, who made these assertions in an interview with Daily
Trust, argued that, “For me, for Buhari to do a second term is a must.
Then his vice needs to be given the chance to do two terms too so that
they can exhaust all their plans for Nigeria.
“They have good programmes lined up for this nation and
Nigerians should give them the chance to change the state of this
nation.”
Justifying what informed his position, the erstwhile lawmaker said,
“their party (APC) was formed barely a year ago. Buhari came in and
started correcting the wrongs; you need lots of time and efforts to look
into a lot of things.
“Let us take for example, the corruption issue, we need
to investigate because arms deal was not an issue for the previous
government, it was when he was about to take over that this arms deal
came to the surface. We have other sectors like MDAs that need to be
looked into. He cannot finish these things in just one term. It is a
very serious issue that government needs to take care of the future.
“The situation we have on ground requires Buhari to have another term
after the current one to consolidate before he can hand over.”
El-Badawy ended by saying: “The vice president is there, others are
there and they can take over after he has done his second term. But the
issue of Buhari stepping aside for others to take over is not the best.”

Government workers in Ekiti State who embark on strike
without first exhausting channels of negotiation would henceforth
forfeit their salaries during such industrial action, Governor Ayo
Fayose has warned.
Fayose gave the warning yesterday evening in Ado Ekiti, the state capital while appearing on his monthly media chat, 'Meet The Governor'.
He also denied awarding contracts for the construction of Erekesan
Market, Airport and flyover to his children, family members and cronies.
The governor’s latest hard-liner was coming on the heels of a two-day
warning strike by primary school teachers in the state last week to
protest non-payment of September 2014 salaries and 2014 leave bonus.
Speaking tough, Fayose said the state would henceforth divert
salaries of striking workers to those ready to show concerns and
understanding with the parlous economic situation of the state. He said:-
“Since I came back, Ekiti is financially challenged. I
have not hidden the financial position of the state from workers,
particularly the teachers, because they are the set of people I have
shown so much love for.
“I celebrate them on annual basis. Even during my first term, people called me Teachers’ Governor due to my love for them.
“But the strike they embarked on recently could have been resolved without any crisis if we had dialogued”.
According to him, the respect he showed the teachers was not
reciprocated, adding that every worker in the state knows how much Ekiti
receives as monthly federal allocation because he lays it bare for them
to see.
“We should also know that the people who are not salary
earners must be taken care of. We can’t be paying salary and neglect
other people from having access to facilities like good roads, good
water supply and this market I just flagged.
“So, I enjoin the workers to show some level of understanding that we
have to balance the two, I mean paying salary as the money comes and
also help the masses as well.
“There is nowhere in the world where the entire budgetary provision will be centre around recurrent expenditure”, Gov. Fayose.
On his recent visit to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, Fayose
said: “Governor Aregbesola is my very good friend. It is only in
Nigeria where two friends in different political parties won’t be free
to greet each other.
“My visit to governor Aregbesola is in Yoruba’s interest.
“We have to forget about our political differences and build Yoruba into a huge political force in Nigeria”.
Prof. Michael Faborode, the Secretary-General,
Committee of Vice-Chancellors (CVC), says that the tenure of
vice-chancellors of nine Federal Universities will expire on Feb. 15 and
that it will be wrong to describe their removal by President Muhammadu Buhari as a sack. Faborode, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria
(NAN) on Saturday in Abuja, said that it would not be fair to say that
the vice-chancellors were sacked.
Media report on Saturday was that the Federal Government had sacked the
Vice Chancellors of 12 Federal Universities that were established by the
administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
The report added that the Vice-Chancellor of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) was also sacked.
The affected universities are:
Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa State, Federal University,
Lokoja, Kogi State, Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State and Federal
University, Wakari, Taraba State.
Others are Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, Federal
University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa
State, Federal University, Ndufe-Alike, Ebonyi State and Federal
University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Also affected are Federal University Gashua, Yobe State, Federal University, Gasau, Zamfara State and Federal University, Kebbi.
“The tenure of the vice-chancellors of nine of these universities expires on Feb. 15″, Faborode said.
“It will be unfair to say that they were sacked; they have exhausted
their tenure; when your tenure is not renewed; it does not mean you are
sacked.
I do not know the reasons why the vice-chancellors of the other three universities were affected,’’ he added.
The Presidency has countered claims in some quarters that President
Muhammadu Buhari has not achieved anything in the seven months of his
administration.
The Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam
Garba Shehu, in a statement on Wednesday highlighted some achievements
of President Buhari who took over on May 29 last year.
Shehu was reacting to a recent report by the Centre for Democracy and
Development which claimed that Buhari had only achieved one out of his
222 tracked electoral promises, representing 0.5 per cent of the
promises.
But the presidential spokesman said it was unfortunate to attribute
to the President promises he did not make during the campaigns and hold
him accountable.
The presidential spokesman warned the group against misleading Nigerians with its cooked up analysis.
According to him, no sincere Nigerian will fail to recognise the
courage of the President to tackle corruption in a country where
impunity was once celebrated.
He said as a result of these efforts, the Nigeria Customs Service had
quadrupled its revenue base within seven months, a feat the service
could not achieve in years.
“Doesn’t the President deserve credit for this and other efforts to confront the monster of corruption?”Shehu asked.
On the economy, he said it was wrong to blame the President for the
falling oil prices in the world market, a challenge which he said had
made Buhari lay emphasis on economic diversification.
He recalled that President Barack Obama of the United States had
inherited an economy in crisis in 2009 and was not judged in his first
seven months in office.
He, however, said progress was being made in recovering the nation’s stolen funds.
He said an escrow account had been opened for that purpose.
Shehu added, “He (Buhari) is making good strides towards improving
governance by tackling corruption. Till date, a good number of persons
believed to have collectively stolen billions from taxpayers have been
arrested and are facing the courts.
“We are working with our allies across the world from Britain and
America to France and Germany to China and the UAE to source, locate and
repatriate misappropriated funds.
“So far, an escrow account has been opened for money that is being
returned. This is only the start. The return of stolen funds is
important, but it is just as critical to ensure that those who seek to
steal realise that no longer will there be such impunity in Nigeria.”
He said Buhari’s war against corruption and terrorism had become a template for Africa and the rest of the world.
Shehu said, “The latest CDD episode is a shocking reminder to their
failed attempt to hold the President to ‘100 promises in 100 days’ which
disastrously crashed on the head of the proponent.
“The elevation of the act to a new high of 220 promises is a
knee-jerk reaction that seeks to play to the gallery and score points
against the President.”
A witness who was called to testify as the arms deal case of
Olisa Metuh proceeds, has revealed how he paid the money given to him by
the PDP spokesperson back to the EFCC.
The trial of the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh resumed on Monday at the
Federal High Court, Abuja with the prosecution witness, Abbah Dabo
telling the court that he returned the N25m he received from Metuh to
the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Dabo is a retired public servant and a former Special Adviser to the
President in the office of the former Vice President, Namadi Sambo . He
was the former editor of the Sunday New Nigeria, Kaduna, Gaskiya
Tefi-Kwabo, the Hausa version. He was also a onetime Chief Press
Secretary to former President, Shehu Shagari.
According to Daily Post, Dabo in his testimony told the court how the
embattled PDP spokesman gave him the sum of N25m five days after the
Presidential nomination Convention.
He said, “Metuh had on Dec 16, 2014 paid the sum of N25m into my
personal account through his company Destra Investment for the purpose
of publicity for the PDP during the last Presidential campaign.”
Dabo said sequel to the 2015 Presidential election, some concerns
were raised by the party among which was negative publicity in the media
and in order to address these, Metuh ” thought I could assist in the
mitigation in view of my antecedent as a media man.”
He added that the money was refunded to the EFCC as he could not
reach Metuh at the time, as reports in the media linked the transaction
between him and the PDP spokesman to the funds meant for the procurement
of arms.
“There were publications in the media linking my transaction with
Metuh to controversial circumstances. It was alleged that the N25m he
gave me through his company was sourced from the arms deal.
“In view of that, I decided to return the money back to the EFCC as Metuh could not be reached.” Dabo said.
I don’t know how true this report is..but according to the source,
Mrs Iara is filing for divorce on claims that her husband, Adams
Oshiomhole, is fetish and diabolic.
Lara was alleged to have also accused her husband of being
responsible for the death of his former wife Mrs Clara Oshiomhle who
died on December 7, 2010, at the Abuja clinic, Maitama, after a
protracted battle with breast cancer.

The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase has said the time has
come for police officers to take over liberated areas in the North-East
from the military as part of measures to restore peace and normalcy in
the region.
Speaking at a roundtable meeting with strategic stakeholders on
security in the North-East on Thursday in Abuja, Arase said with the
increasing successes of the military, the time had come for the police
to play its lead role in restoring civil authority in the war-torn
areas.
He said, “I want to state that the unstable situation and wide range
conflict created in the North-East has greatly denied citizens in the
affected areas of the security which they constitutionally deserved to
enjoy and it is for this reason that the Nigeria Police Force is
evolving operational strategies that will lead to the restoration of
police primacy and restoration of civil authority in the North-East. Of
course, I will not just post Police personnel to the North-East without
first ensuring their safety and provision of adequate welfare. That is
why we have already sent the Deputy Inspector-General of Police,
Operations to go beforehand and ensure adequate preparations towards the
taking over of the place by the Police,” he said.
The Supreme Court will today Friday pass its judgment on the case
before it challenging the trial of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola
Saraki, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal over charges bordering on
alleged false assets declaration.
A seven-man bench led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud
Mohammed, had towards the tail end of last year fixed Friday, January 5
for the ruling after hearing the arguments on the appeal by Saraki. The
Federal Government had urged the apex court to dismiss the Senate
President’s case and allow the trial before the CCT to continue.
The Senate President had in an appeal through his lead counsel, Mr.
Joseph Daudu (SAN), challanged the majority judgment of the Court of
Appeal in Abuja delivered on October 30, 2015, which affirmed the
jurisdiction of the CCT to try him and the competence of the charges of
false assets declaration preferred against him by the Federal
Government.
It could be recalled that the Federal Government also in September 2015
arraigned Saraki before the CCT on 13 counts of false assets
declaration, which he allegedly made in 2003 as Governor of Kwara State.
The Danadi Umar-led CCT had dismissed Saraki’s protest against the competence of the charges and jurisdiction of the tribunal.
The Supreme Court had on November 12, 2015 through a five-man panel, led
by now retired Justice John Fabiyi, granted an order of stay of
proceedings of Saraki’s trial before the CCT, pending the hearing and
determination of his appeal.
The Lagos State Government, yesterday, demolished a 4-storey building
owned by founder of Premier Lotto, popularly known as “Baba Ijebu,” Sir
Kessington Adebutu, as part of the on-going exercise to address
building collapse.
The building, which was located at No 6, Campbell Street, Lagos
Island was used as party secretariat by the Action Congress, (now All
progressives Congress) and law firms, but was deserted 10 years ago when
the tenants discovered cracks on the wall.
Baba Ijebu is said to have bought the building a few years ago but
was still deliberating with his staff on how to restructure it.
The building was sealed by the Lagos State Building Control Agency(
LASBCA) twice to allow the owner embark on Structural Stability
Test(SST) before embarking on manual demolition exercise which commenced
on October 16th, 2015 and December 22, 2015.
Peterpsquare has been called out by one of his Aproko/busy body followers over allegations of cheating.
This marriage crasher also tagged the girl he allegedly cheated with.
Poke nosing the girl’s page showed that she actually talked about her
trip to UK and France, a week before. And last week, while Peter and
Samuel Eto were in UK on a business trip, she was also there. She also
shared a picture of herself with Eto. She returned to USA about the same
time Peter and Eto jetted out to Turkey.
The comments were made on Peter’s latest IG post but he has since
deleted them…When the cheat sniffer noticed her comment has been
deleted, she went further to release this post below;
A female student who was expelled by the Rivers State University of
Science and Technology, in 2015, for having “speech and hearing
challenges” has sued the institution for damages to the tune of N20
million.
Jane Ottah, 28, said the damages were for the trauma, embarrassment, and emotional distress caused by her expulsion.
In court papers filed at the Rivers State High Court and seen by
Premium Times, Ms. Ottah also demanded that the university provide the
necessary support services and facilities to aid her learning. She
further demanded a perpetual injunction restraining the university or
their agents from discriminating against her in any way.
The court has fixed February 19 for hearing. Ms. Ottah, a former student
at the Department of Educational Foundation at the university, was
expelled on January 30, 2015, over claims that she had speech and
hearing challenges.
“I am directed to state that during your recent medical examination
in the Health Services Department, it was observed that you are
medically challenged and have hearing and speech difficulties,” the
university stated in a letter to Ms. Ottah signed by C.M Ewhorlu,
Principal Assistant Registrar (Senate).
“You are therefore advised to hand over all University property(ies)
in your possession to your Head of Department and thereafter leave the
campus.”
Ms. Ottah said her ambition of reaching the “highest point possible
academically” notwithstanding her disability was frustrated by the
university.
“The Applicant, notwithstanding her disability (hearing impairment)
has a burning desire for education – a desire she pursued such that she
acquired primary education, secondary education where she passed eight
subjects at a sitting,” Ms. Ottah said in a court affidavit.
The Movement for the
Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has called on
the Federal Government to allow the Igbo people decide by vote, their
continued stay as part of Nigeria.
MASSOB threatened to make the country ungovernable if the government does not heed to its call. Punch reports that a statement issued by the National Director of Information, MASSOB, Samuel Edeson,
said “MASSOB and other pro-Biafra agitators will make Nigeria
ungovernable if the Nigerian government failed to conduct referendum in
Eastern Nigeria.
“We shall use everything at our disposal to fight the Nigerian government, especially through civil disobedience.
“We are going to call for ‘sit at home’ in all Biafran land and Lagos.”
You will recall that MASSOB and a faction of the Movement for the
Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) recently announced that they are
partnering to actualise the struggle for a Biafra nation.
A lot of Nigerian men will simply groan at the mention of
Valentine’s Day and may never figure out why women make so much fuss off
the day.
The fact that they have to buy most of the presents, pay for the
dinners and be on their best behaviours makes it even worse for them to
understand why Valentines Day exists at all.
Well, just so you don’t become boo-less out of sheer ignorance as to
why your woman loves Valentines day, Naijaloaded got your back and
brings you 5 reasons why a Nigerian girl simply can’t wait for the day
to finally come… 1. The Attention They Get
Whether women admit it or not, Valentines Day is the day women rate
how much their men really appreciate and care for them. It is also a day
women know their position in their man’s life. So if your boo has his
own boo, that is the day to find out. 2. Gifts
Most Nigerian women are probably somewhere carefully counting down to
the amazing presents they will get from their man (or men as the case
may be), because in Nigeria, everybody knows men are traditionally
expected to buy the presents why the women are meant to simply look
beautiful and accept the presents. 3. Proposals
If the man in her life does not pop the question on her last
birthday, at Christmas, then the best bet is he might just ask her to
marry him on Valentines day. So which single girl doesn’t want that? 4. Reinvent The Crush
People nowadays are just too busy earning a living to have time for
romance. Valentines day is the perfect day for these ones to revamp
their love life. Men are extra romantic on this day, and this is
something every woman loves. 5. Showoff
Showing off things like presents, a visit to a special place etc. on
social media is common practice nowadays. So, one reason a Nigerian girl
loves val day is because it gives her the opportunity to display what
you got her or where you took her on social media either to intimidate
her friends, make them jealous or give them the impression that she has a
perfect man.

The 2014 World Cup will be remembered as one of the
most exciting and entertaining ever. The beautiful game sparks so much
attention that it’s impossible to ignore the sport’s rich history.
Discussions about Argentina, Germany, Brazil and the Netherlands in
2014 can quickly morph into discussions of past World Cups, and how
countries had previously competed and the players they boasted of on
their roster.
The subject of which players are better than others can spark intense
opinions and debate. That’s why we’ve decided to place ourselves in the
heart of a long-standing argument.
Like any list, our Top 50 Greatest Players List should be taken with a
grain of salt. How does one judge the level of greatness between a
striker and a right back? How can a central midfielder be ranked at No.
43 and a goalkeeper at No. 16?
The criteria for our selections include the player’s impact on their
era and their position, as well as the contributions they provided for
their club and country.
This list includes the rank of the player, and the country they represented.
Let the debate begin: 50. Kenny Dalglish, Scotland 49. Zbigniew Boniek, Poland 48. Matthias Sindelar, Austria 47. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, West Germany 46. Rivelino, Brazil 45. Just Fontaine, France 44. Roberto Carlos, Brazil 43. Andres Iniesta, Spain 42. Ruud Gullit, Netherlands 41. Uwe Seeler, West Germany 40. Michael Laudrup, Denmark 39. Andrea Pirlo, Italy 38. Dino Zoff, Italy 15. Gerd Muller, Germany 14. Eusebio, Portugal 13. Michel Platini, France 12. Paolo Maldini, Italy 11. George Best, Northern Ireland
And now without further ado, here is the Top 10… 10. Garrincha, Brazil
His nickname in Brazil, “The Joy of the People,” tells much about what
Garrincha offered on the pitch. Born with both legs that bent to one
side, the boy from Rio, whose demons ultimately caught up with him,
befuddled defenders with the kind of dribbling and ability to change
direction never before witnessed. While Pele is the Brazilian known
around the globe, many in his home country have more love for Garrincha.
When Pele was injured, it was Garrincha who inspired Brazil to their
second World Cup triumph in 1962. 9. Ferenc Puskas, Hungary
The Galloping Major was a part of two of the greatest teams of all
time. The most integral part of the “Magical Magyars” Hungary side of
the early 1950s, Puskas and his teammates appeared certaint to lift the
1954 World Cup, but somehow lost in the final to Germany after Puskas
had put them ahead and was then controversially denied an equalizer in
the dying stages. Thankfully, his brilliant career did taste glory at
club level, having won three European Cups with Real Madrid, including
in 1960 when he scored four in the famous 7-3 defeat of Eintracht
Frankfurt. 8. Alfredo di Stefano, Argentina, Colombia and Spain
In marking his sad passing this week, Real Madrid had no qualms about
declaring Di Stefano “the best player of all time” in a headline on
their website. It is not hard to see why. Born in Argentina, but having
also turned out at international level for Colombia and Spain, Di
Stefano played a key role in the history of European soccer, having
famously come close to joining Barcelona before moving to arch rivals
Real Madrid, and becoming an integral figure in the Spanish side winning
the first five European Cups. 7. Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal
CR7 comes in at No. 7 and for good reason. He has shown little sign
that he won’t continue to be the brightest of stars on a Real Madrid
squad filled with world-class players. Once criticized for lacking end
product, he has developed into the world’s most effective player, a
testament to his relentless desire for self-improvement, which can also
be seen in his phenomenal athleticism. 6. Franz Beckenbauer, Germany
For decades every defender with any remote ability on the ball has
earned comparisons to Beckenbauer, but none have matched the graceful
brilliance with which the man nicknamed Der Kaiser strode forward with
the ball and initiated attacks during the 1960s and ’70s. The scorer of
an impressive five goals in World Cups, Beckenbauer finally lifted the
trophy as captain in 1974 after suffering painful defeat in the 1966
final. 5. Zinedine Zidane, France
Scored two goals with his head to lead France to victory in the 1998
World Cup final, but it was with his feet that Zidane brilliantly cut
teams to shreds. He was a maestro with the ball, weaving passes with
perfect weight to his teammates. A clutch performer, Zidane almost
single-handedly inspired France to the World Cup final in 2006. It came
four years after he scored one of the all-time great goals in a European
Cup final to win the trophy with Real Madrid. 4. Johan Cruyff, Netherlands
The most recognizable member of the great Dutch team of the 1970s that
revolutionized the game with their Total Football, Cruyff was the total
footballer. While nominally a center-forward, the Amsterdam-native was
ahead of his time in dropping deep to the befuddlement of his opponents.
Sadly, fell agonizingly short of winning the World Cup, but won three
straight European Cups with Ajax. 3. Diego Maradona, Argentina
Maradona played in an era when defenders were allowed to get away with
brutalizing their more skilled opponents, and yet he was still majestic.
A hero for leading Italian club Napoli to their first and still only
two Serie A titles, his greatest achievement came when he inspired
Argentina to World Cup success in 1986, scoring mesmeric goals in both
the quarterfinals and semifinals. 2. Lionel Messi, Argentina
The key member of the greatest club team in history as Barcelona have
dominated Europe, Messi can change a game in an instant with
unfathomable close control while gliding forward at lightning speed. The
Argentinian has answered doubts about his ability to perform for his
country and could now complete his legacy by leading them to World Cup
glory. 1. Pelé, Brazil
Bookended his career at the top level with World Cup wins, first as a
brilliant 17-year-old in 1958 and then 12 years later as part of one of
the greatest teams to ever grace the competition. In between he picked
up another winner’s medal in 1962, although was injured during the
tournament. The all-time top scorer for Brazil, Pele fired in a total of
1,281 goals during a glittering career.
The youngster, only in his second season as a
professional, is already making big plans to win the Caf Confederation
Cup with the Lafia based outfit
Nasarawa United defender Ifeanyi Nweke is hoping to make a huge
impact on the continent when they play in the 2016 Caf Confederations
Cup.
The 18-year old defender who is entering his second season as a
professional footballer and an established member of the Solid
Miners’mfirst team has set his target for their appearance on the
continent.
“I want to play well and be recognized in Africa,” he told Goal.
“This is my second season (as a professional) and I think I have made improvements from the way I started last year.
“So when I play in the Confederations’ Cup, I want everyone to take
note of me and I also hope that means us going far in the competition.”
When asked if he thinks he can cope with the level of football on the
continent, given his limited experience, the youngster was full of
confidence in his ability.
“I know I can cope, I believe I am ready. I have improved a lot over
the past year as a player and it has showed in the way I have played
against the top teams, especially Enyimba in the Super 4.
“I believe in myself and I know I can cope when the time comes,” he stressed.
22-Yr-Old Surrenders To Police After Killing Cousin Over Girlfriend
Just like Macbeth, in Shakespeare’s play of same name, murdered sleep
and could no longer sleep, 22-year-old Ndifreke Joseph Clement,
disturbed by sleepless nights and traumatic experiences after murdering
his 23-year-old cousin, Ubong Edet, surrendered himself to police six
months after the crime.
Clement, a native of Akon Itam, Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom
State, who handed himself over to police at Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, said
he slashed his cousin’s throat after beating him to coma because Edet
slept with his girlfriend in August 2015.
He told Vanguard: “I cannot remember the exact date now, but it occurred
in a night in August 2015 in the one room apartment we shared. On that
day, I returned from work to meet the door locked.
“I knocked on the door and waited for over five minutes before my
cousin could come to open the door. When I went into the room, I saw my
girlfriend weeping and blood running from her nostrils.
“I asked her what happened and she said Ubong beat, wounded and
forcefully had s*x with her. But after opening the door for me, Ubong
went away and did not come back until very late in the night.
‘We fought for a very long time’
“When I asked him why he did what he did to my girlfriend, he started punching me and I retaliated.
“We fought for a very long time before I could subdue him. I then
picked my cow-butchering knife and cut his throat, carried his dead body
and dumped it in the bush very close to the house and threw the knife
into the pit toilet.
“I have brought myself to the police even when nobody knew that I
killed him. I have come to plead for forgiveness because since I killed
my cousin, I no longer have peace of mind. I am always disturbed in my
mind and dream.”
The Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Cordelia
Nwawe, said the suspect would be arraigned for the court to decide
whether he had any right to take the life of another person.
The 9-year old girl who was beaten by her madam and then got showered
with hot water for allegedly stealing crayfish is now in the custody of
Lagos State Government. Precious Chinwedu got the attention of the Governor when the news was reported by various media houses.
The Governor than ordered the Office of the Public Defender (OPD), to
take the girl away from the private hospital she is receiving treatment
in Alagbado and care for her henceforth.
The Director OPD, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi confirmed this and said the girl is now in their custody where she is receiving adequate treatment.
Former Presidential aspirant, Pat Utomi in a recent interview
at an event in Lagos has criticised Buhari on his approach to economic
issues which he believes spells doom for Nigeria.
Nigerian renowned Political Economist, Professor Pat Utomi has
criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent public comments
concerning the devaluation of the Naira which has depleted strongly
against the U.S dollar.
Utomi’s comments is coming on the heels of President Muhammadu Buhari
declaration late Wednesday in Nairobi, Kenya, that he was yet to be
convinced that Nigeria and its people will derive any tangible benefit
from an official devaluation of the Naira.
Speaking in an interview on Monday at the inauguration conference of
the Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy on Monday, February 1,
Utomi said the president has no knowledge of the economy and should
allow those who do speak on the matter.
He said the president’s statement in Kenya that he would not devalue the Naira has already created more problem for Nigeria.
“Somebody like him should not be talking about such things. Keep
quiet…he has created a major problem for the Nigerian economy by that
statement.” Utomi said.
Utomi also commented on the mono-cultural nature of the Nigerian
economy which is based on the plummeting oil that has adversely put the
country in recession.
It would be recalled that President Buhari revealed at an interactive
meeting with Nigerians living in Kenya, that while export-driven
economies could benefit from devaluation of their currencies,
devaluation will only result in further inflation and hardship for the
poor and middle classes in Nigeria’s import-dependent economy.
The president added that he had no intention of bringing further
hardship on the country’s poor who, he said, have suffered enough
already.
A Federal High Court sitting in Jos, the
Plateau State capital, on Wednesday ordered the prison remand of the
Managing Director of Dadin Kowa Microfinance Bank Limited, Mr. Irmiya
Jatau, over N11.5bn fraud.
Also remanded was the Bishop of
Maranatha Church, Jonas Katung, who was charged alongside Jatau by the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which accused them of
defrauding hundreds of depositors.
The accused were slammed with 24 counts before Justice Musa Kurya.
Joined with them in the charge are one Okewole Dayo and Dadin Kowa Microfinance Bank Limited.
The EFCC alleged that the defendants
conspired to defraud over 64,000 customers of the defunct Covenant
Fadama Cooperative Society to the tune of N11.5 bn.
In one of the counts filed against the
accused, the EFCC alleged that sometime in 2012, they “did conspire with
yourselves to commit money laundering contrary to Section 18 (a )of the
Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011, as amended by the Money
Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2012 and punishable under Section 15 (3) of
the same Act.”
They were also accused of transferring
the sum of N50m from Covenant Fadama Cooperative Society account to a
First Bank account, with number 2003050001625, into the Dadin Kowa
Microfinance, First Bank account Number-2016452671.
This sum, the count said, represented
proceeds of unlawful acts and amounted to an offence contrary to Section
15 (25) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011, as amended by
the Money Laundering amendment (Prohibition) Act 2012 and punishable
under Section 54 of the same Act, among others.
But when the charges were read to them,
all the accused persons pleaded not guilty, except Bishop Katung, who
pleaded guilty to one of the counts before he suddenly changed his mind
and pleaded not guilty like others.
Katung had earlier on December 9, 2015, been granted bail before the case was adjourned till Wednesday.
The EFCC prosecutor, Mr. L. P. Asor,
said Jatau was not covered by the bail application earlier granted to
the accused persons because no charge was preferred against him as of
the time the bail application was granted to the bishop who is the first
accused person in the charge.
According to the EFCC, the charges against the bank MD were only filed two days before.
However, while opposing the bail
application, the prosecuting counsel argued that the bail granted to the
first accused person should also apply to the bank MD since he is one
of the co-accused persons in the entire case.
After hearing the argument from the
defence and prosecution counsel, the presiding judge ruled in favour of
the prosecution and ordered that the bank MD be remanded in prison
pending when his bail application would be filed and considered by the
court.
The case was adjourned till March 7 for further hearing.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) said there would be “a slight
delay” in the payment of Corps members allowance for January 2016. The
agency has further given explanation for the delay.
In a press statement issued out on Wednesday, the NYSC management
explained that the delay of January allowance was due to disparities in
logistics and planning details for 2016 from the Ministry of Budget and
National Planning, the Ministry of Finance as well as the NYSC itself.
In this light, there have been continuous efforts to ensure the
situation is addressed in order to facilitate the payment of January
allowance to all corps members. It said: “Management regrets this delay,
and is, therefore, working round the clock to ensure that all corps
members receive their January allowance between now and next week.
It will be recalled recently, the NYSC ordered its staff to declare
their assets, the Director-General of the NYSC, Johnson Olawunmi,
ordered the personnel of the scheme to declare their assets in line with
the code of conduct for public officers.
